World Day of Remembrance for the Road Accidents Victims
Every day the road accidents world wide claim about 3500 fatalities, while the dozens of thousands get injured or otherwise harmed. Many people throughout their life carry with them psychological injury and trauma following tragic loss of the close ones. That is why on the 26 of October 2005, the UN General Assembly invited member states and international society, to celebrate a third Sunday in November, as an annual World Day of Remembrance for the Road Accidents Victims
Last Sunday (i.e. 20 November 2011), as part of the celebrations of the World Day of Remembrance for the Road Accidents Victims, in the St. Florian Cathedral in Warsaw, took place special mass for the dead and injured on the roads.
For this reason also, at the Wola Park shopping centre in Warsaw, the Foundation - „Jedź Bezpiecznie" (Drive Safely) organised Educational Workshops - „Safe child while travelling and on the road" linked with the press conference, to which invited were representatives of the institutions operating to improve the safety of all road traffic participants. The co-partner of these workshops was Motor Transport Institute.
During the press conference, spokesman for the Road Transport Chief Inspector, Mr Alvin Gajadhur stressed that safety on the roads is improving, amongst the others, thanks to implementing automatic road traffic supervising system. Positive effects on the accidents' statistics also have photo-radars, whose numbers regularly increase, added Alvin Gajadhur.
Mr Michał Szczerba, MP, from the Parliamentary Group for the Road Traffic Safety warned to keep a constant caution on the roads, many of which, are currently under construction or repairs. The MP stressed also, that among the factors contributing to the road traffic safety, the man is the most important link.
Constable Agnieszka Makowska, from the district police station - Warszawa Wola, has made a comment, that we shout remember about road traffic victims and safe driving not only on that day but every time we participate in the road traffic.
