AV-POLAND 2025 – Conference Report
On June 12, 2025, the 4th edition of the international AV-POLAND conference took place at the Motor Transport Institute (ITS) headquarters in Warsaw. This is the leading event in Poland dedicated to road transport automation. This year's theme was: “FEEL THE FUTURE, FEEL THE AUTOMATION.”
Organized by the Motor Transport Institute and the Competence Centre for Autonomous and Connected Vehicles, the event brought together experts, researchers, public administration representatives, business leaders, and international organizations working on the development of autonomous (AV) and connected (CAD) vehicles.
Opening Remarks and Key Speeches
The conference was officially opened by Stanisław Bukowiec, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure. Welcome speeches were also delivered by Marcin Ślęzak (Director of ITS), Małgorzata Pełka (Chair of the Organizing Committee), and Renata Rychter (Director of the Road Transport Department at the Ministry of Infrastructure), who discussed legislative changes supporting AV development in Poland.
Thematic Sessions
Session I focused on current technology trends and real-world implementation experiences, with contributions from Mikołaj Małecki (DEWESoft), Joan Costa Martinez (IDIADA), and Andrea Conti (AVL).
Session II was dedicated to the DARTS-PL project, led by ITS and Warsaw University of Technology, commissioned by the Ministry of Infrastructure. The project aims to create a database of test scenarios for AVs, tailored to Polish road conditions. Presentations were given by Adrian Mazur (MI), Marcin Ślęzak (ITS), and teams from ITS and WUT. The session concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Andrzej Świderski.
Session III explored technical and social challenges, presenting research on public acceptance of AVs and the use of simulation technologies in the automotive sector.
Session IV highlighted national and European initiatives, including IMPROVA and FitDrive. Speakers included Justin Hidalgo (IDIADA), Lars Akkermans (Flemish Government), Simona Roka (IDIADA), and John Lepine, former president of EFA.
Demonstrations and Exhibits
One of the conference’s highlights was the live and static demonstrations of autonomous vehicles and related equipment, held three times during the day. Attendees had the chance to observe AV technology in action under controlled testing conditions.
The exhibition area showcased:
- ADAS testing platforms,
- simulation and automated data analysis tools,
- driver and environment monitoring systems,
- and data mapping and annotation technologies.
- A special feature was the exhibition titled “The Autonomous Future of Road Transport. AV-POLAND 2025,” illustrating AV technology development in Poland and Europe.
International Scope
With simultaneous English translation, AV-POLAND 2025 had a truly international character, attracting experts from top research institutions and tech companies across Europe. The dedicated networking space enabled fruitful exchanges and cooperation between science, industry, and government representatives.
AV-POLAND 2025 confirmed its position as a key platform for knowledge exchange and inspiration for those shaping the future of autonomous mobility. The next edition is already in the works, while ITS continues its efforts toward safe and modern road transport in Poland.
