Excellence in Road Safety Awards 2026

The call for initiatives for the “Excellence in Road Safety Awards 2026”, organised by the European Commission under the European Road Safety Charter, has just opened. The awards recognise European institutions and organisations whose activities deliver measurable and tangible results in improving road safety.

This year, signatories of the European Road Safety Charter may submit their initiatives until 10 June 2026. The winners will be announced on 23 November 2026, and the award ceremony will take place in Brussels during a conference summarising the mid-term results of the EU road safety strategy.

The objective of the adopted strategy is to halve the number of road fatalities and serious injuries in the EU by 2030. In Poland, the target is to reduce the number of fatalities to no more than 1,455 and the number of seriously injured persons to 5,317. The conference will provide an opportunity for policymakers, researchers, employers, and civil society leaders to discuss the shared future of safe mobility.

If you have implemented an interesting road safety project and would like to showcase it internationally, we encourage you to submit your initiative in one of the following five categories:

  • Promotion of road safety education
  • Application of technology for road safety
  • Urban road safety
  • Workplace road safety – initiatives addressed to employees (including during business travel) and professional drivers
  • Vulnerable road users – improving the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, users of personal transport devices, mobility aids, electric scooters, and other at-risk road users

The awards are presented to organisations, institutions, companies, civic movements, and city authorities for activities contributing to safer roads across Europe. When evaluating submitted projects, the jury places strong emphasis on the effectiveness of the initiative, including how successfully the action, project, strategy, campaign, method, or approach addressed a road safety issue and what measurable results were achieved.
