Transport Development Center conducts scientific research, expert analysis and outreach activities in the following areas:

  • development of transport automation technologies in the field of human–machine interaction, vehicle sensors, and perception and data processing systems,
  • psychological research in the area of transport psychology,
  • research into mobility development trends, with particular regard to the impact of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and Intelligent Transport Systems, including Smart City solutions,
  • maintenance of infrastructure and databases for the purposes of the Road Carrier Certification process,
  • implementation of tasks within the framework of the Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Competence Centre.

In addition, the activities of the Centre concern:

  • organisation of seminars, training courses and scientific conferences,
  • co-organisation of postgraduate programmes for transport psychologists and vehicle inspectors,
    co-organisation of postgraduate programmes for transport psychologists and vehicle inspectors,
  • active participation in initiatives aimed at road safety education and modification of dangerous attitudes among drivers and other road users, including involvement in public awareness campaigns,
  • psychological assessment of drivers and driver candidates,
  • support for road accident victims (participants, perpetrators and families),
  • and expert assistance to existing and newly established psychological examination centres for drivers.

The above thematic scope of the Centre's activities is carried out by three units:

1. Transport Automation Laboratory:
  • research into systems for the automation of road transport,
  • analyses in support of the implementation of vehicle automation systems in Poland, 
  • cooperation with manufacturers of systems and components used for transport automation purposes,
  • analysis of technology development and trends related to intelligent mobility, 
  • outreach activities to raise awareness, social acceptance and promote the safe deployment of road transport automation systems, 
  • research into road infrastructure in the context of autonomous vehicle deployment and the use of Intelligent Transport Systems components for Smart City applications, 
  • organisational and research-and-development support for the Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Competence Centre.
2. Laboratory of Transport Psychology and Driving Simulators:
  • psychological research in the area of transport psychology 
  • research into driver behaviour under simulated conditions,
  • assessment of vehicle equipment, including human–machine interfaces and in-vehicle monitoring systems, using high-specification driving simulators,
  • delivery of training programmes and public awareness campaigns in the field of transport psychology,
  • preparation of analyses, opinions and expert reports in the area of transport psychology; psychological support for road accident victims and their families,
  • development of information technologies used in driver research and training,
  • analysis of the long-term psychological effects of road accidents.
3. Laboratory of Professional Competences in Road Transport:
  • maintenance of infrastructure and databases for the purposes of the Road Carrier Certification process,
  • development and oversight of the question and task bank for transport manager candidates,
  • preparation and organisation of examinations for the Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Transport,
  • dissemination of knowledge relating to the conduct of transport operations.
